Developing the idea

We wanted to develop our idea further from just an 8 page editorial spread on robotics and bring the changes of education into it more. We wanted to show how when you are younger, you have the biggest imagination, everything is bright, colourful and exciting, and when you go through school you loose that. You become less imagnative and more 'boring'. Our first idea was to use florals, show the colours and imagination of a child and then make the images in sequence become less colourful, show this theme of robotics and machines.
Once the group had discussed the idea, Sophie thought it might be better to change from florals to mixed patterns. The mixed patterns works better with the education theme. We can show how when you are a kid you have this imagination and creativeness is shown through pattern. Kids use lots of toys and objects to create things that make patterns. For example using potatoes and paint to create shapes, painting your hands, colour blocks etc...

These are a few images from designers collections and from the high-street of different outfits which mix patterns together to create this crazy of mess, which is gunna show a childs imagination and creativity at a young age, then make the images less colourful as go along, as if the model was going through school and growing up.

Thakoon spring/summer 2010 Collection -mixing patterns

These outfits are a mixture of patterns and colours together. Some clash and some contrast. We want to use lots of patterns and colours that don't necessarily go tgoether to show this big mass of creativity and imagination as a child. These images will give me and Sophie an idea of the clothes we can look for to create this look.

Mixing florals, Stripes, Dots (large or small), Patches, Zig-Zags, Diamonds, Squares are just some patterns we can mix and match.

Mxing all these different patterns to create long flowing dresses, or dresses with lots of material helps us flow the flow of creativity and how things are less structured when you are such a young child.

I picked these images for the range of patterns in the outfits. We are hoping to create outfits that have a lot of pattern mixed up together. The more the better. Here is mixed stripes, with a sailor pattern.
